Primary Purpose of Position IT Network Administrator III reports to the Director of Infrastructure and is a key member of the Network team. The role advances network infrastructure, advanced networking, communications, cabling, network security, and research infrastructure. Responsibilities include developing network plans and budgets, and working with the Information Security department on access management and data security. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Collaborate with IT and non‑IT leaders to balance operational, project, and planning priorities. Lead and grow network infrastructure and cloud technologies. Experience with network/virtualization upgrades, project management, and policies in higher‑education environments. Manage and architect enterprise firewalls. Provide persuasive leadership throughout the campus community. Communicate technical concepts to technical and non‑technical staff. Demonstrate maturity, reliability, composure, and stability under pressure. Provide constructive criticism and feedback. Use enterprise networks and virtual infrastructure in on‑premises and cloud deployments. Secure networks, incident response, and infrastructure redundancy. Manage Cisco routing, switching, firewalls, VMware networking, AWS/Azure networks, network‑access control, and network management. Knowledge of VRFs, Cisco wireless networks, Cisco ISE, Cisco DNA center, Prime Infrastructure, SIEM solutions. Knowledge of Cisco licensing and Smartnet/Smart licensing. Interact with vendors and resellers. Assist ITS security in policy and regulatory environment of information security in higher education. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience. Ten or more years of progressive IT experience. Three or more years of leadership responsibilities. Preferred five or more years in a similar higher‑education role. Experience in project management, infrastructure design, and staff development. Experience in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments. Primary Responsibilities and Duties Function: Information Technology Develop strategy for services, technical roadmap, and design of campus infrastructure, cloud infrastructure, virtualized systems, firewall/security solutions, and enterprise collaboration. Oversee design, operation, and support of IT infrastructure throughout full lifecycle. Collaborate with IT Systems and Security teams to manage security of university technology systems and data. Ensure system networking services align with campus policies and standards. Inform infrastructure strategy and standards; develop network standards for data center and cloud technologies. Function: Administrative Use critical thinking to troubleshoot, perform, delegate tasks, and stay abreast of IT issues including regulatory changes. Communicate with campus on emerging technology topics. Ensure professional development and growth opportunities for the network team. Supervise and develop the network team in collaboration, networking, firewalling, cloud, and other areas. Function: Knowledge – Technical Examine impacts of new technologies on NC Central University’s IT infrastructure. Establish processes to review implementation of new technologies.
