Position Summary This position acts as a specialized ultrasound technologist, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions in patients. You play a central role in detecting heart malfunctions and supporting physicians as they develop diagnosis and treatment plans. Core Functions Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders, using independent judgment and applying learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures. Oversees Heart Clinic echocardiographic services, ensuring quality of performance and accountability for scanning protocols and quality measures following the guidelines of ASE or IAC. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes. Performs high-quality images and presents them for timely interpretation, ensuring accurate documentation. Provides preliminary clinical findings to supervising physicians, cardiologists or cardiac surgeons. Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures in accordance with established policies. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements; demonstrates ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors. Adheres to safety policies. Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to practice, including maintaining confidentiality of all work information. Ensures efficient operation of workflow in the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services. Performs high-level disinfection in accordance with manufacturers and regulatory policies and procedures. Functions as the clinical and technical expert in Cardiac Sonographic Imaging for the Cardiology or Cardiovascular department. Acts as a clinical resource to staff and students, and trains new staff and students in sonographic techniques, focusing on the echocardiographic laboratory. Provides echocardiographic-related education to Banner Health staff and cardiac sonography students, assessing student competency and providing feedback to department leadership. Ensures echocardiography functions are within compliance of professional scope of practice, accreditation and regulatory standards, Joint Commission and Title 22. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Requires completion of an accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular program. Requires national certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Cardiac Sonographer. Uncertified new hires who are Registry eligible must obtain certification within 12 months of hire. BLS certification required. One to two years of clinical experience in cardiac sonography.
