Sonographer

Performs high-quality cardiac ultrasound procedures that require ingenuity, initiative, and independent judgment on patients. Performs m-mode, two-dimensional cardiac ultrasound, Doppler color flow studies, stress echos, and AV optimization procedures. Assists physician with transesophageal exams. Follows department policies and protocols. Specializes in performing cardiac ultrasound diagnostic studies. Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence in patients. Ensures the needs of individual patients are met. Operates and maintains all assigned ultrasound scanning equipment to ensure it works properly. Positions patients, selects appropriate transducers and machine settings, and conducts scanning procedures to correctly capture the images requested by a physician. Completes quality assurance processes and practices. Complies with all regulatory laws, standards, and protocols. Staff will usually rotate between a day shift and a second shift, which would be 5:00 PM - 1:30 AM. Once a month, there will be a rotation for weekends that includes call.
