SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIESThe Pharmacy Clerk Performs a variety of clerical, non-professional pharmacy tasks such as retrieving and packaging prescriptions, entering customer data, and ensures efficient checkout services. Provides exceptional customer service.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Complies with applicable board of pharmacy requirements, state and federal laws.
- When customers enter building, the first and most important responsibility becomes to acknowledge, greet, and engage customers
- Assists customers with locating and selecting products according to knowledge of over-the-counter items and recommendations from pharmacists.
- Scans items and keys product codes, ensures correct check-out totals for customers, and maintains accurate money count in cash register drawer.
- Bags prescription orders and stores the bags in appropriate area accordingly
- Stocking and cleaning of pharmacy shelves
- Collaborate with internal teammates and pharmacists to complete necessary orders and identify opportunities for improvement as a team.
- Maintain a clean working environment
- Maintain patient records confidentiality.
- Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
- Attends in-service and training as assigned.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
- Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to operate cash register and to learn other computer software required.
- Capable of maintaining a neat and organized work space.
- Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
- Minimum of 16 years of age required.
- Maintain all continuing education required by State.
The Pharmacy Clerk will have personal contact with all levels of staff, patients, visitors, and government agencies.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS
The Pharmacy Clerk must be able to lift up to and over 20 lbs. The position requires bending, stooping, crouching, walking, pushing and pulling and long periods of standing. The physical demands of the position are frequently extreme and require the highest level of concern for personal and patient safety. Exposure to chemical is possible. Hearing, speech and vision must be adequate to perform job duties in person and over the phone. Have the ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels and work closely with others.
EQUIPMENT USED
The Pharmacy Clerk will use the following equipment: various medical equipment utilized in the care of customers, computer, cash register and various computer programs, copy machine, fax machine and telephone usage.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY III
Tasks that involve little or no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
COMPLIANCE
Responsible for abiding by all policies and procedures to include the Code of Ethics and the principles and standards set forth for conducting business and affairs.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA )
The Pharmacy Clerk will be responsible for abiding by all policies and procedures relating to HIPAA.
