IT Project Manager

Mall of America

Purpose The IT Project Manager is a key contributor to Mall of America's operational effectiveness, responsible for the structured planning, coordination, and delivery of technology initiatives across the organization. This role serves as a critical link between Information Technology and the business units it supports, ensuring that projects are executed with discipline, transparency, and alignment to strategic priorities. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in project management methodology alongside the interpersonal effectiveness and business acumen needed to drive cross-functional initiatives to successful completion. This individual will be equally comfortable engaging with senior leadership, technical teams, and external partners – communicating with clarity, managing competing priorities, and maintaining accountability at every stage of the project lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Own project plans end-to-end: scope, schedule, budget, and stakeholder communication from kickoff to go-live. Keep cross-functional teams focused and moving, even when priorities shift or timelines get tight. Build strong working relationships with vendors and contractors, ensuring commitments are reflected in statements of work and delivered on. Translate technical requirements into plain business language and business needs back into clear direction for IT teams. Proactively identify risks, surface issues early, and bring solutions, not just status updates. Partner with IT leadership and business stakeholders to align project priorities with organizational goals. Champion clear documentation: task ownership, milestones, and decisions are always visible and current. Drive end-user adoption by ensuring teams understand their roles in any system change or new implementation. Recommend process and workflow improvements with a practical eye toward what will work. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines. Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients and other departments. Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Regular, reliable and consistent attendance. Additional duties as assigned.

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Strong communicator – written, verbal, and everything in between. You can read a room and adjust on the fly. Natural relationship builders who earn trust across levels, from end users to executives. Organized without being rigid – you build structure to serve the project, not the other way around. Comfortable with ambiguity and able to drive clarity when things get muddy. Accountability-focused – you follow through, and you hold others to the same standard without being a gatekeeper. Enough IT fluency to have credible conversations with technical teams, understand project constraints, and spot when something doesn't add up.
