Education High School diploma or equivalent (Required) Certified course in Endoscopic Saphenous Vein Harvesting (Preferred) Work Experience 5 years experience working in surgery (Required) 2 years’ experience in Surgical First Assisting (Preferred) Certifications Certification from an accredited Surgical First Assistant Program (Required) Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Demonstrates good judgement in performing duties and conflict resolution. Skilled in suturing and saphenous vein harvesting. Basic analytical skills. Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Job Duties Practices strict adherence to sterile technique. Facilitates in preparing the patient for surgery. Provides visualization of the operative field. Under the direct supervision of the surgeon, harvest the saphenous vein for coronary artery grafting purposes. Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes. Selects and applies appropriate wound dressing and secures drainage system or intra-aortic balloon pump to tissue. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, adapting explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions and communication style. Other related duties as required.
