Summary The Secondary Teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school. All district employees must demonstrate regular and predictable attention to work, support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions. Responsibilities Design and implement appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs. Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport. Develop and deliver relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement. Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet the individual needs of students. Observe and evaluate student performance and mastery of standards, monitor student assessment data, and maintain student grades and attendance. Manage student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures. Communicate with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourage parental involvement. Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities. Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records, inquiries, and data. Maintain appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required. Perform any other duties as assigned. Language Skills: Read, analyze, and interpret documents; respond to inquiries or complaints; write speeches and present effectively. Mathematical Skills: Apply probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems with limited standardization, interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs. Physical Demands Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing. Lifting up to 10 pounds. Reaching with both dominant and non-dominant hand overhead. Noise intensity: moderate.
