Job Title

This position is with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and functions as a Psychometrist for the Southern Region.

Job Description

This professional work involves the administration and interpretation of both formal and informal diagnostic evaluations of individuals with disabilities for placement in vocational rehabilitation. The work includes all phases of testing, such as intelligence, education, and personality. Incumbent recommends prescriptive plans, based on understanding of psychological principles, experience, and findings; performs follow-up; and conducts workshops and in-service training sessions.

Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Administers and interprets both formal and informal diagnostic evaluations, i.e. intelligence, sensory motor, perceptual, personality, language, educational and others, on an individual or group basis.
  • Reviews medical histories; consults with medical staff, psychologists, counselors, teachers, and other personnel.
  • Interviews clients and determines the type of psychometric measures to be performed to fill the particular needs of the clients.
  • Evaluates individuals with disabilities for job placement or diagnostic/prescriptive purposes; a psychological write-up on each individual is used to verify diagnostic evaluation.
  • Prepares reports on test results for presentation at conference with other professional personnel concerning diagnosis, evaluation, prognosis and training, and contributes professional opinion based on findings.
  • Contacts client or client's counselor for the purpose of implementing the prescriptive job placement plan after the prescription is completed.
  • Conducts subsequent follow-up visits as requested.
  • Conducts and participates in workshop and in-service training sessions in order to aid administrators and counselors in understanding behavioral characteristics and test techniques.
  • Keeps abreast of new methods and materials and suggests appropriate materials to be placed or used in the classrooms.
  • Performs related and similar duties as required or assigned.
What You'll Need To Be Successful

Good oral and written communications skills are required to be proficient in this position. Must be able to prioritize, plan and provide timely services to those individuals being served. Looking for individuals who can multi-task, are very detailed oriented and analytical. A thorough knowledge of Vocational Rehabilitation policies and procedures are required. Must be able to communicate relevant information on a timely basis with accuracy and completeness. Is a problem solver who works to find solutions to unexpected problems that arise within the resources available.

Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Master's Degree or a Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience. Hiring agency preference will be given to those with: A Master's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Psychology, Counseling, or a related field with a course a course (three (3) semester hours) in Wechsler Testing, and three (3) years of related experience. Mississippi Certification in Psychometry is preferred but not required.
