Child Care Assistant Teacher

Position Summary Childcare Teaching Assistants are responsible for caring for the health, wellbeing, and age‑appropriate education of infants, toddlers, and young children in a child care setting under the direction of a Teacher Associate. This role may be seasonal or year‑round and offers an hourly rate beginning at $20.00/hr. Essential Duties Interact with, initiate and encourage children in all activities during the day, ensuring their safety at all times. Follow curriculum as directed by the Teacher Associate; participate and encourage participation among children in the classroom. Maintain a cooperative and supportive attitude with other staff members. Be responsible for the basic care needs of the children in their classroom. Be knowledgeable in state child‑care regulations and follow all applicable rules. Assist during mealtimes—including preparation, serving, and cleanup. Communicate children’s individual needs to families. Assist with daily tasks that maintain the tidiness of the facility. Attend all staff meetings and training sessions. Complete 24 hours of professional development. Wear designated protective equipment and follow procedures as directed. Participate in the coordination of emergency procedures. Act as a mandated reporter by contacting the Department of Child and Family Services when required. Qualifications Meet or exceed Vermont standards for Teaching Assistant positions. High school diploma or equivalent required; 3‑credit college course in Psychology, Sociology, or Early Education preferred. At least 1 year of experience in a childcare center. 18 years of age or older. First Aid & CPR certification. Desire to work closely with children in an educational and supervisory setting while pursuing personal accreditation through professional development. Experience working with children from newborn to six years old in a supervised environment is a plus. Able to lift 40 pounds on a regular and repeating basis. Can work during the day without scheduled breaks. Can handle high noise levels and stressful environments. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
