Animal Research Technician – Laboratory Animal CareOnsite | Athens, GA | 12-Month Contract | Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PMSigma, Inc. is seeking an Animal Research Technician to support a leading research organization in Athens, GA. This onsite opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience in animal care, veterinary support, livestock handling, laboratory animal environments, animal husbandry, or research facility operations.The Animal Research Technician will provide daily animal care, maintain accurate documentation, support research activities, and ensure compliance with established protocols, safety guidelines, and animal welfare standards.Job ResponsibilitiesPerform daily animal husbandry and healthcare activities according to study protocols and organizational proceduresConduct routine animal health observations and promptly communicate health concernsProvide proper care, handling, feeding, and monitoring of research animalsMaintain accurate records, documentation, and study-related informationFollow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety requirements, and regulatory guidelinesSupport facility sanitation, cleaning procedures, and equipment maintenance activitiesAssist with sample collection and scientific procedures as requiredSupport necropsy activities and research study requirementsWork safely in a laboratory animal research environment under Biosafety Level 1 and Level 2 conditionsMaintain compliance with: Animal Welfare Act regulations, NIH guidelines, AAALAC accreditation requirements, Company animal care policiesParticipate in team meetings, committees, and workgroups as neededProvide support and guidance to junior team members when requiredRequired QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDAbility to accurately complete documentation and follow detailed proceduresStrong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate recordsAbility to recognize and communicate animal health concernsComfortable working in a research and laboratory environmentAbility to perform physically demanding work, including: standing for extended periods, working in hot, cold, humid, or noisy environments, lifting and moving materialsPreferred QualificationsExperience working with animalsBackground in: animal husbandry, veterinary technician support, livestock care, laboratory animal research, animal science, farm or agricultural environmentsExperience following SOPs and regulated proceduresExperience handling animals in a professional or research settingPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 70 lbs occasionallyAbility to lift up to 50 lbs frequentlyComfortable working around animals and livestock-related environmentsMust not have allergies to animals or livestock/feed dustScheduleMonday–Friday8:00 AM–4:30 PMMinimum 40 hours per weekWeekend overtime required approximately once per monthMay include occasional holidays or additional hours based on business needsContract DetailsJob Title: Animal Research TechnicianLocation: Athens, GADuration: 12-Month ContractWork Arrangement: OnsiteSchedule: Full-TimePotential: Opportunity for conversion to full-time as positions become available
