Environmental Educator at the Meadowlands Environmental Center (Part-time hourly)

Pay $20/hr Job Summary Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Disability Education, the Environmental Educator is responsible for the development and implementation of education programs for students in the K-12 educational environment and for visiting groups from the community. The Environmental Educator conducts programs for educators and other special programs as required. Organizational Security Responsibilities This position requires adherence to the organization's information security policies and procedures. All employees share responsibility for protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the organization’s mission essential IT assets, regardless of role. Individuals in this role are expected to apply appropriate safeguards, participate in required security awareness training, and promptly report potential security incidents in accordance with institutional policies. Duties Implement educational programs and enhance lesson plans correlated to State and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Facilitate teacher-training workshops in house and in schools; develop and implement traveling programs to schools, nursing homes, libraries, and hospitals. Respond to public inquiries following established guidelines and contribute to team effort by completing tasks on an as needed assigned basis. Establish liaison and maintain cooperative working relationships with MEC staff whose functions impact on assigned responsibilities. These include environmental educators, Assistant Directors, School District Coordinator and the NJMC. Consult with supervisor on a regular basis to report progress on assignments, to report problems, and to resolve problems. Wear designated uniform shirts when presenting a program to school groups and the public. Experience One year of professional experience related to the functions of the position, or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority. Experience working with children in a classroom environment strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Field knowledge of flora and fauna required. Knowledge of animal care, ecosystems and/or environmental issues preferred. Be familiar with NGSS and State Content Standards. Innovative teaching techniques/strategies. Ability to conduct classes outdoors under varied conditions. Research and develop new programs for school groups and general public. Demonstrated computer literacy/knowledge of current educational technology. Assist in the production of literature for program use. Be able to travel to various facilities and present programs.
