No matter where your talents lie, join us and discover how we can advance health together.Duke Health Integrated Practice comprises more than 110 primary and specialty outpatient clinics, extending the reach of the Duke Health mission across the state of North Carolina.$7,500 Commitment Bonus and Relocation Program for eligible candidates!Job Location: Duke Children's Creekstone - 4709 Page RoadJob SummaryWe are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified to perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure office runs smoothly.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure office runs smoothly.Administrative duties may include but not limited to the following:Answer telephones and greet patientsSchedule and reschedule appointmentsUpdate and file patient medical recordsFill out school/ FMLA formsHandle correspondenceAssist with hospital admissionsArrange for laboratory servicesHandle charge capture for billing purposesPerform other administrative duties as directedClinic duties may include but not limited to the following: Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including:Taking medical histories and recording vital signsAssist with obtaining prior authorizationsAssist patients with form completion.Explaining treatment procedures to patients utilizing predetermined protocolsPreparing patients for examinations and proceduresAssisting the physician during the examination and proceduresCollect and prepare laboratory specimensPerform basic laboratory tests on the premises. Dispose of contaminated suppliesPromote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record.Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician and document in patient care record.Tee up and forward prescription refills as directed. Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy.Perform finger/heel sticks.Prepare patients for x-rays, tests and procedures.Change sterile and non-sterile dressings.Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the nurse or physician.Perform patient intake including: obtaining vital signs (including manual blood pressures), administering survey tools, data collection, education screens, assisting patients with ambulation/toileting, reviewing patient medications, assisting patients with preparing questions forprovider visit.Completing procedural tasks including: administering vaccinations and medications according to protocols and provider orders, A1C, specimen collection and correct labeling, assisting with clinic-performed procedures (including skin testing, Nexplanon insertions/removals,EKGs, place holter monitors), reviewing pre-printed material with patient/family, bill for nursing procedures.Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.Job Eligibility RequirementsLevel II -- Must have at least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.High school or GED graduation required.Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.BLS required.Job Hours: The schedule for this position is day shift Monday to Friday.Duke is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunity without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy and pregnancy related conditions), sexual orientation or military status.Duke aspires to create a community built on collaboration, innovation, creativity, and belonging.
