Job Title: Operator Job Description The Operator plays a key role in a large, high-tech manufacturing environment, working hands-on with machinery, measuring tools, and production processes. This role involves learning and executing floor operations, supporting production teams, and contributing to continuous improvement activities. Candidates with manufacturing or trades experience who are comfortable working with decimals, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools will thrive in this position. Responsibilities Learn and perform all floor operations and production processes in a hands-on capacity. Backfill and support various production roles when necessary to maintain workflow and output. Participate in interviewing, hiring, and training new team members as required. Assist in determining pay rate settings and increases in alignment with company guidelines. Collaborate closely with Operations to prioritize work orders and meet production targets. Accurately record labor hours in company software and maintain proper documentation. Review and approve time-off requests to avoid conflicts with production schedules. Maintain a clean and organized work area, demonstrating strong housekeeping skills and supporting line clearance and 5S practices. Manage the KANBAN system to ensure operations follow established procedures and material flow is maintained. Use QAD or similar systems to create scrap and efficiency reports for management review. Process engineering change orders (ECO) as needed to adjust operational run times, setups, and related parameters. Determine appropriate work techniques to optimize efficiency and quality. Adhere to and enforce safety guidelines and company attendance policies consistently. Lead by example and participate in the disciplinary process when necessary, using objective evidence to support decisions. Handle conflict resolution in a professional and constructive manner. Work overtime when production demands require additional support. Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations and team objectives. Essential Skills Hands-on experience in manufacturing, machine operation, or trades-related work. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for production and assembly tasks. Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers. Comfort working with decimals and basic math for measurements and machine settings. Experience with general machine operation and production processes. Ability to perform inspection tasks, including visual checks and microscope-based inspection when needed. Familiarity with general labor and assembly work in a production environment. Understanding of maintenance concepts in electrical and mechanical systems. Basic troubleshooting skills for machinery and production equipment. Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively in a manufacturing setting. Capability to work in a cleanroom or controlled environment when required. Willingness and ability to work overtime based on production needs. Strong commitment to safety, housekeeping, and adherence to company policies. Comfort with conflict resolution and participation in disciplinary processes using objective evidence. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with medical device or medical assembly manufacturing environments. Background working with equipment and products used in the medical and aerospace industries. Exposure to nitinol-related products, fabrication, or finishing processes. Familiarity with KANBAN systems and lean manufacturing practices such as 5S. Experience using QAD or similar ERP software for scrap and efficiency reporting. Ability to process engineering change orders (ECO) and adjust operational parameters. Understanding of production workflows in large-scale manufacturing facilities. Work Environment The role is based in a large manufacturing facility with over 250 people on site, featuring extensive equipment and machinery and many moving parts. The environment is clean, safe, and temperature-controlled, with a strong focus on orderly operations and good housekeeping. You will work in a production setting that supports nitinol melting, materials, fabrication, and finishing, with equipment primarily serving the medical industry and products used as implants and in aerospace applications. The facility has recently expanded by 17,000 sq. ft., underscoring a long-term commitment to the site and ongoing growth, and you will operate within structured processes, modern manufacturing systems, and a well-organized production floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bethel, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.40/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
