A fifth grade math teacher is responsible for delivering data-driven math instruction aligned with state standards. Primary duties include assessing student progress, managing classroom behavior, and participating in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). State requirements mandate specific Tennessee educator licensure and content endorsements.
Core Responsibilities
- Instruction & Planning: Design and deliver engaging daily lesson plans that meet Tennessee Academic Standards.
- Data Analysis: Analyze both qualitative and quantitative student data (including TVAAS metrics and district benchmark assessments) to drive small-group, differentiated instruction.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment that promotes student engagement and emotional growth.
- Collaboration: Partner with grade-level teams, special education teachers, and administration. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress.
- Compliance & Duties: Maintain accurate student records, fulfill supervisory duties, and complete required professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, though a Master's degree is highly preferred.
- Licensure: Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Tennessee Department of Education teaching license.
- Endorsements: Acceptable elementary endorsements typically include Elementary Education (K-5) or appropriate specialty area endorsements like Middle Grades Mathematics (5-8).
- Skills: Strong knowledge of child cognitive development, data analysis, and educational technology.
