Laboratory Central Processing Specialist Job Responsibilities Takes appropriate action when diagnosis code is missing/fails and responds appropriately to ABN. Prioritizes specimens after collection or as they arrive in the Laboratory or on pending lists; distributes and/or prepares specimens according to special requirements while prioritizing delivery to departments or outsourced labs. Acts as a liaison and department resource for staff, customers and/or patients; demonstrates an expanded knowledge of technical and administrative tasks beyond normal technical operations. Oversees inventory and ordering of approved supplies for section; maintains adequate supplies and uses department resources efficiently. Avoids urgent supply requests and inventory loss due to expiration. Maintains current knowledge of methods for blood, urine, stool and culture collections while explaining specimen collection protocols to patients, nurses and physicians as required. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
