Neurodiagnostic TechnicianThe Neurodiagnostic Technician applies knowledge to produce high-quality neurodiagnostic studies. They utilize professional knowledge to meet or exceed department guidelines and standards. The technician shall have a thorough knowledge and proficiency in neurodiagnostic practice and procedures. Core EEG functions include routine outpatient and inpatient EEGs. They perform prolonged routine EEGs to rule out ECS. Long-term continuous EEG is conducted in patients. Outpatient event monitoring is also a core function. They apply the 10-20 system for electrode placement and adapt to individual patients as indicated. Advanced EEG functions include VEEG inpatient event monitoring. They monitor multiple patients' EEG and video in the monitoring unit. The technician makes appropriate notations on the EEG record. They actively evaluate patients during clinical events. Notifying physicians and nurses as necessary is a part of the role. They monitor patients scheduled for ictal SPECT and assist as needed. EEGs are performed in the Interventional Radiology lab during specific procedures. Intracarotid EEG recording and intra-operative brain mapping is part of the technician's responsibilities. Quality and safety assurance is paramount. They monitor to prevent injury related to clinical events or falls. Understanding mechanisms for notifying the healthcare team is essential. Maintaining electrical safety during testing is a priority. Adherence to infection control standards is required. The technician applies knowledge to provide patient education regarding neurodiagnostic procedures. They strive to improve competency and obtain new skills through continuous learning. Non-EEG functions may include evoked potentials and SSEP.
