Job Overview: The First Judicial District Adult Treatment Program provides supervision, accountability, and treatment for adult felony drug and DUI offenders in the greater Helena area. The Treatment Court Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the program, including but not limited to development of program materials, program development, public speaking engagements, and building community awareness. The coordinator prepares and submits monthly budget reports to the lead agency, organizes regular treatment team meetings, manages the court's schedule, maintains treatment court files, works with the treatment team, communicates regularly with participants and providers, and makes program changes at the direction of the presiding treatment court judge.

Qualifications include experience working with multi-agency systems and working with an adult and youth substance-abusing populations. The successful applicant must be able to work well in a team-oriented environment and be self-motivated.

Job Duties:

  • Make purchases as necessary to support the program in accordance with the program's budget and the accounting policies of the Judicial Branch and State of Montana.
  • Pay program invoices, submit reimbursement forms to the Office of Court Administrator, and manage the treatment court checking account. Manage deposits of donations and participant payments and appropriately document all deposits and expenditures.
  • Establish a schedule for the treatment court in coordination with the judge, manage the treatment court calendar, prepare agendas and materials for staffing meetings, secure meeting spaces and times, schedule check-ins in the judge's absence, arrange emergency meetings or hearings when necessary, and ensure a record is made of proceedings when required by the judge.
  • Maintain and revise participant contracts, handbooks, and program policies and procedures as directed by the judge and treatment team.
  • Draft documents, including arrest warrants, graduation orders, termination orders, and weekly orders, at the direction and subject to the review of the presiding judge.
  • Maintain treatment court records.
  • Engage in regular communication with participants about program expectations and participant needs, questions, and barriers.
  • Track compliance with program requirements and compile information about participants from probation officers, testing providers, treatment providers, and others and disseminate information to the treatment team.
  • Coordinate with treatment providers in establishing treatment plans for participants. Work with community providers to ensure provision of services for participants and receipt of regular reports on participants' progress and compliance.
  • Secure regular and reliable testing of participants for drugs and alcohol and ensure reports of testing are provided to the treatment team.
  • Facilitate multi-agency services and collaborate with treatment providers to meet treatment court objectives on behalf of the clients.
  • Manage treatment court applications and screening, including communication with prospective participants, attorneys, prosecutors, and sentencing courts. Use approved risk and needs assessment tools.
  • Identify and facilitate training opportunities for the treatment team, including obtaining approval for and arranging travel to periodic training conferences.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  • Establish a recovery management program, including keeping a list of past participants and engaging in periodic communication and check-ins with former program participants.
  • Organize appropriate pro-social activities for participants and graduates in coordination with the treatment team.
  • Attend and participate in stakeholder meetings and committees and develop community partnerships.
  • Maintain positive public relations and provide information for community awareness.
  • Other duties as assigned by district court judge.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; preferably with a focus of study in social work, human services, or a related field; and two years' experience working with adult substance abuse offenders. Experience in managing a budget, report writing, and working with multi-agency systems preferred. Experience may substitute for degree. Must be able to work well in a team-oriented environment, be organized with a care for detail, and be self-motivated. Will consider qualified applicants with a prior criminal record on a case-by-case basis.

Licensure and Certification Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Montana driver's license; proof of insurance if using a personal vehicle on State business.
