Medical Assistant - Executive Health - La Jolla

Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla has served the greater San Diego community since 1924. We’re also home to notable specialty programs, including cancer care, heart surgery, orthopedic surgery, labor and delivery services (including a Level III neonatal intensive care unit) and a nationally designated Comprehensive Stroke Center.

This is a full-time, benefitted position working Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. No weekends or evenings are required. The position is located at the Scripps Center for Executive Health in the Scripps/XiMED Building in La Jolla but may float to other departments as needed to support business needs. The role includes both clerical (front office) and clinical (back office) Medical Assistant responsibilities including venipuncture and lab draws.

Job Duties

• This is a dual role with both clinical and administrative aspects
• Blood withdrawal via venipuncture
• Rooming patients, checking vitals, assisting with procedures
• Clinic prep assisting with Provider specific protocols
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment
• Organizes and performs patient care services that support the physician’s practice
• Relaying instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
• Collecting patient data in person and by phone
• Documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
• Administering medications specifically directed by the physician
• Scheduling of appointments and procedures
• Complete and accurate message taking
• Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
• Order and referral entry, acquisition of pre-certifications
• Setting up of cases in EPIC plus basic registration and updating of demographics

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program OR hold a Medical Assistant Certification OR have a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman
• BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of experience working as Medical Assistant
• Primary Care or Internal Medicine experience
• Venipuncture experience
• Customer service experience

Position Pay Range: $25.95-$32.56/hour
