Our Organization operates a teaching hospital that delivers comprehensive services, equipped with cutting-edge technology, alongside education and research opportunities. The medical center is situated on a 119-acre campus with 350 acute care beds, providing healthcare services throughout southeast Texas.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Conducting clinical assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, appropriate diagnostic evaluations, and timely treatment implementation.
• Diagnosing and managing hematologic and oncologic emergencies.
• Participating in rounds with residents and fellows on the inpatient service, rotating with other physician team members.
• Covering weekends and holidays in rotation with fellow physicians.
• Demonstrating competence in the following procedures:
• Diagnosing and managing malignant hematology, benign hematology, and solid tumor oncologic diseases.
• Identifying and managing side effects related to cancer treatments and hematologic conditions.
• Counseling patients with new diagnoses of malignancy or benign hematologic conditions.
• Teaching clinical fellows and residents in the outpatient clinic environment.
• Performing bone marrow biopsies and analyzing peripheral smears as necessary.
• Ordering diagnostic studies and interpreting laboratory tests, EKGs, and radiological tests (e.g., chest x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, PET scans).
• Providing outpatient initial and follow-up care for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions.
• Prescribing chemotherapy and other medications within the defined scope of practice.
• Advising patients on cancer screening, genetic testing, and prevention strategies.
• Responding promptly to consultation requests.
• Offering education and counseling to patients and families regarding their hematologic or oncologic conditions.
• Supervising advanced practice practitioners (nurse practitioners, physician assistants) and mentoring students, residents, and fellows in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Maintaining communication with referring providers and other specialties (surgery, radiation oncology, transplant, etc.) for patients requiring multidisciplinary care.
• Participating in multidisciplinary tumor boards.
• Completing electronic consultations (e-consults) for hematologic and oncologic conditions.
