Work Shifts 9:00 A.M - 5:00 P.M Duties & Responsibilities PURPOSE OF POSITION Responsible for the day-to-day oversight, coordination, and evaluation of operations in the Departments of Surgery and ENT. Oversees all surgery care activities, programs, and projects of those departments. Ensures the delivery of patient-centered, cost-effective quality care, and a culture of safety across the continuum of care, as well as the optimal utilization of resources and compliance with surgery care standards, resulting in improved outcomes and patient experience. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Directs the overall day-to-day operations of the Surgery Department in partnership with clinical and nonclinical staff and is accountable for operational excellence and delivery of quality services 2. Partners with senior leadership, clinical staff, and other key stakeholders to define the operational plan for the Surgery Department ensuring alignment with the System's mission, values, and business goals. Identifies and meets staffing needs to support continuity of care and delivery of high-quality service 3. Conducts ongoing review of existing surgical policies and standard operating procedures to identify gaps or discrepancies and implement revisions, as necessary, to support quality control and risk management. 4. Prepares and/or actively participates in the development of the surgery fiscal year budget, allocation of funds and various business plans. Ensures operations run within budgetary guidelines, reviews budget requests for surgery services and monitors all surgery expenses and purchases. 5. Manages staffing needs and provides orientation, training, and guidance to staff to support the continuity of care. Oversees performance assessment and management, participates in selection and disciplinary activities and works with Labor Relations to enforce H+H policies. 6. Ensures and maintains accurate and current documentation regarding staff licensure and credentials and keeps complete and accurate documentation. 7. Form sub-committees when needed to address specific tasks 8. Create and update EPIC clinic templates for all providers; troubleshoots template and scheduling issues affecting patient care instantly. 9. Educate internal teams and KCHC finance department on insurance plan medical policies for surgical pre-authorization to reduce the risk of pre-auth denials. 10. Partner with Public Relations department to conduct marketing and educational events to promote our services; Create and host health fairs. 11. Develop and maintain partnerships with community and Ambulatory Care providers to build a bridge of referrals to/from our programs. 12. Build partnerships with Peri-Operative Services, Anesthesia leadership, and OR/ASU/PACU nursing to ensure safe and effective care of patients throughout the perioperative pathway. 13. Manage the ACS Quality Programs (e.g., MBSAQIP) accreditation process and works with Nursing, OR, Radiology, ED, Pediatrics, Ambulatory Care, Facilities, Critical Care, and other departments to develop compliance with MBSAQIP requirements 14. Evaluate hospital-wide availability of safe equipment and facilities; Work to correct deficiencies to ensure safe care for all patients. 15. Assist with creating patient and provider/resident education and marketing materials. 16. Conduct surgical outcomes data collection and analysis 17. Collaborate with the Departments of Quality, Risk Management, and Patient Relations. 18. Collaborate with the following Committees: Patient Engagement, Executive Perioperative, Grievance Sub-Committee, Patient Safety, Accreditation & Regulatory Compliance. 19. Communicate with other H+H surgery programs to share resources. 20. Ensure 24-7 call coverage for patients. Minimum Qualifications 1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Hospital or Health Care Administration, Public Health or a related discipline and five (5) years of high-level responsible experience in Hospital, Business, or Public Administration or a Health Care Administrator in a position of direct responsibility for operations of a major part or all of a, health care setting, including substantial exposure in meeting community health needs; or 2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in 1 above; and six (6)years of high-level experience in areas as described in 1 above.
