ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

This position requires a minimum of 3 years of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Candidates must also have experience in either neuro or cardiovascular (CV) specialties. The role involves working in a Level 1 trauma center with diverse and complex patient cases.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Surgical ICU - Trauma Neuro Surgery
• Number of Beds: 32
• Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1
• Common Diagnoses: Level 1 trauma, falls, gunshot wounds (GSW), blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents (MVAs), trauma patients over age 15, exploratory laparotomy (ex-lap), cranial surgeries, specialty neuro-surgery cases, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), post-thrombolysis (TPA), COVID-19, sepsis, and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).

Certifications Required

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS

Essential Skills and Experience

• Experience titrating drips (e.g., Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin).
• Charge nurse duties will be assigned, but those in charge do not take patient assignments.
• No nurse aides are assigned to the unit; support staff may be used for sitters and as Health Unit Secretaries.
• Registered Nurses (RNs) are required to interpret their own telemetry strips.

Shift Details

• Self-scheduling is permitted; management may balance shifts based on unit needs.
• Weekend Requirements: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (night shifts on Friday-Saturday, days on Saturday-Sunday).
• Holiday Requirements: May have 1 holiday off during the assignment.
• Floating Requirements: May require floating to telemetry with a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed.

Additional Information

Unit-specific orientation will be provided for 1-2 days. Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will be conducted as necessary. The expectation is to float between the Surgical ICU and medical/cardiac ICU settings as needed.
