Respiratory Therapist Position Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care to individuals across the lifespan in our acute care and specialty settings. Working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will assess, treat, and manage patients with a wide range of cardiopulmonary disorders, helping to improve their breathing, comfort, and overall quality of life. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and provide both routine and critical respiratory interventions. Administer oxygen and aerosol therapies, perform chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques, obtain and interpret arterial blood gases, and conduct pulmonary function and other diagnostic tests as needed. Set up, operate, and monitor a variety of respiratory equipment, including ventilators, non‑invasive ventilation devices, humidification systems, and oxygen delivery systems, ensuring safe and effective operation in accordance with established protocols. Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies, participating in rapid response and code teams, providing airway management, ventilator support, and other life‑sustaining interventions in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff. Document accurately and timely in the electronic medical record, charting assessments, interventions, patient responses, and updates to care plans. Follow strict infection control and safety guidelines to protect patients, colleagues, and yourself while maintaining a clean, organized, and well‑functioning work environment. Explain respiratory conditions, treatments, equipment use, and discharge instructions in a clear and compassionate manner, helping patients manage chronic respiratory diseases and adhere to home care plans.
