Gastroenterology Department Medical Assistant

Presbyterian Medical Group's Gastroenterology Department is seeking a compassionate and motivated Medical Assistant I or Medical Assistant II to join our growing team. In this role, you will provide exceptional patient care while supporting gastroenterologists and advanced practice providers in a fast-paced outpatient specialty clinic. This position offers a built-in career ladder, allowing qualified candidates to be considered for either the Medical Assistant I or Medical Assistant II level based on experience and education. Medical Assistant I employees have the opportunity to progress to Medical Assistant II through completion of training, competency requirements, and organizational career ladder guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for performing medical assistant procedures after completion of competency within organizations MA scope of work, under the supervision of a provider and PHS policy.
• Prepares patient for rooming and exam
• Prepares and administers medications and immunizations
• Suture/Staple removal and dressing changes
• Collects and prepares laboratory specimens
• Provides basic education to patients
• Sets up aseptic and sterile procedures
• Performs office-based procedures
• Performs basic foot care
• Assists with additional procedures as determined by provider
• Participates in the orientation of new hire MAs
• May perform regulatory audits
• Assists with visit closure
• Participates with care team to meet patient care and clinic needs.
• May perform scribe duties after completing PMG scribe training

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Six months of MA experience or successful completion of a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program from an accredited school required
• Successful completion of Presbyterian MA Advanced Skills Training within 90 days of hire
• BLS (AHA, Red Cross or ASHI Healthcare Provider) required
• Maintains current certifications in required emergency response trainings (i.e. BLS)
• Completes all Organizational, Department of Nursing and Department-Specific competency training/requirements within specified timeframe.
