RN INPATIENT – All Progressive Care Units (PCU) – Day & Night Shifts University of New Mexico Hospital – Albuquerque. We have immediate RN hiring across our PCU departments. All shifts available! Rate based on experience: Minimum $34.84 (RN Inpatient II) to Max: $47.33 (RN Inpatient V). Receive 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights and 15% Weekend Day shift differentials. Currently Hiring Coronary Care Subacute Adult Inpatient Admission Unit (PAAU): A fast‑paced, high‑throughput unit that serves as both an Observation Unit and a bridge for patients transitioning from the Emergency Department to the Progressive Care Units. Nurses manage diverse patient populations across multiple specialties in a highly collaborative environment. Adult Oncology: Serve patients receiving chemotherapy, stem cell transplants, radiation, and more. We also participate in research measures aimed at preventing and treating cancer diagnoses. New Mexico's only NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and one of only 51 in the United States. Family Medicine Inpatient (3‑N): Patient population ranges from End Stage Renal Disease, Liver Failure, Mobility Issues, Surgical and more. We also are the secondary unit for Cystic Fibrosis patients. Gen Med/SAC (4‑W): Care for patients with many different conditions and disease processes. Specialized care population: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. General Medicine (5‑W): Care for patients with many different conditions and disease processes. Specialized care: Cystic Fibrosis. Primary COVID unit during the pandemic height. General Surgery/Transplant (6‑S): Care for primarily pre‑op and post‑op renal transplant patients, some transplant rejection patients, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary and general surgery patients. Trauma Subacute (4‑E): Patient population primarily trauma patients and specialties such as chronic pain, complex ENT patients, and everything in between. Orthopedics (3‑S): Care for patients with many conditions. Specialized: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Surgical Specialty Unit (4‑S): Service a wide variety of patient populations: General Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, Urology, Plastics and more. Manage patients with surgical drains, complicated wounds, wound VACs, chest tubes, indwelling urinary catheters, ostomies and occasional trach. Neuroscience (5‑S): Serve patients who have experienced stroke, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis and more. Designated by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association as a Primary Advanced Stroke Center. Job Summary Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. Provide clinical leadership for other staff and assume relief charge duties when designated. Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups. Essential Functions Patient Care: Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required. Policies: Work within Hospital, Nursing division and departmental policies. Care Plan: Work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age‑specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching. Tests and Procedures: Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained. Participation: Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel. Emergency Measures: Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients. Medical Records: Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information. Inquiries: Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy. Medication: Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings. Environment: Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospital standards. Development: Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in‑services, meetings and workshops. Patient Safety 1: Follow patient safety‑related policies, procedures and protocols. Patient Safety 2: Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes. Patient Safety 3: Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk. Patient Safety 4: Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner. Patient Safety 5: Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right". Minimum Qualifications Education Nursing program (nationally accredited) graduate. Certifications RN MATRIX: Complete and maintain unit/clinic based required certifications and competencies as listed in the department expectations/and or the unit/clinic education matrix. Licenses/Certification Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by State of New Mexico. CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position. Testing Requirements Obtain UNMH IV Verification within 6 months of position. Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing. Preferred Experience Bilingual English/Spanish. Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo. Preferred Licensure/Certification Nationally Certified in area of specialty. Working Conditions Environment Conditions Sign Hazard: Chemicals, bio hazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may require protective equipment. Physical Conditions Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
