Role Description The Machinist role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Des Moines Metropolitan Area. The machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC and/or manual machines to produce precision components used in injection molds and related tooling. Daily tasks include interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate tools and materials, performing accurate measurements, and adjusting machine settings to meet tight tolerances. The role involves inspecting parts for quality, documenting production data, and collaborating with engineering and toolmaking teams to resolve machining issues and optimize processes. The machinist is also expected to follow safety protocols, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help maintain a clean, organized work area. Qualifications Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications. Proficiency in operating CNC and/or manual milling, turning, or grinding equipment and using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges). Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and working with tight tolerances. Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM or CNC programming concepts is preferred. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to quality and safety. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate clearly in a manufacturing environment. Experience in plastic injection mold, toolmaking, or high-precision manufacturing is a plus. High school diploma or equivalent required; Tool and Die degree highly recommended; T echnical certificate or apprenticeship in machining or a related field is beneficial.
