Staff Applied AI Engineer

Salary: $230,000 - 275,000 per year Requirements:

• Experience in software engineering, applied machine learning, or a related technical field.
• Demonstrated experience designing and deploying machine learning or LLM systems in production.
• Hands-on experience fine-tuning LLMs, with knowledge of training methods, evaluation, and performance trade-offs.
• Experience building production AI agents that use external tools and structured outputs.
• Strong Python and PyTorch skills, plus familiarity with modern LLM training frameworks.
• Practical experience with model evaluation, inference optimization, and production monitoring.
• Ability to balance model quality, infrastructure complexity, latency, and cost.
• Strong architectural judgment and ability to influence technical direction at Staff level.
• A pragmatic, experimental approach and interest in challenging applied AI problems.

• Lead model selection and adaptation across frontier and open-weight LLMs.
• Fine-tune and optimize language models using methods such as LoRA, QLoRA, supervised fine-tuning, and preference optimization.
• Design and build production-grade AI agents for tool calling, orchestration, context management, and structured outputs.
• Create feedback loops that turn production data and user interactions into training datasets and evaluation benchmarks.
• Develop evaluation frameworks to measure model quality, hallucinations, accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Design and optimize model-serving infrastructure, including batching, quantization, and inference performance.
• Implement guardrails, observability, and safety measures for reliable AI deployment.
• Provide technical leadership through architectural decisions, design reviews, and mentorship while remaining hands-on.

We offer a base compensation of $230,000–$275,000 plus equity. The position is based in New York City and requires working onsite five days a week.
