About the Facility – Uintah and Ouray Health Center

Leave the hazards of urban life behind and apply your skills to a wide scope of health care. This ambulatory 40-hour facility is staffed by physicians, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, and dental, optometry, and psychology providers. They provide comprehensive public health services including general medical, surgical follow-up, pediatric, prenatal, and postpartum care. Dental, behavioral health and optometry services are also available. Other clinical specialties are provided by visiting consultants and are scheduled periodically. Medical Assistant - Responsibilities

• The Medical Assistant provides patient education.
• Carry out physician orders; administer medications, oxygen, and a variety of treatments.
• Manage therapeutic devices such as respiratory and electrocardiograph machines and other medical equipment and supplies.
• The Medical Assistant measures and assesses vital signs, height, weight, neurological status, visual acuity, and hearing.
• Screen patients for alcohol dependence, depression, etc.
• Collaborate and coordinate patient care with other healthcare providers.
• Perform quality control for capillary blood glucose monitoring checks, fridge temperature checks, etc.
• Collect or assist in the collection of lab specimens where applicable.
• Recognize adverse reactions to medications, treatments, and procedures and initiate interventions as appropriate to the situation.
• The Medical Assistant answer and screen telephone calls, take off and initiate medical orders.

Medical Assistant - Requirements

• Years of Experience: minimum of (6) months of experience as a medical assistant. The training during the medical assistant program can count as (6) months of experience.
• Minimum Education: completion of a medical assistant program, certified/licensed medical assistant certificate, preferred.
• Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support).
• The Medical Assistant must have an active, unrestricted, and free of-disciplinary action certificate/license as a medical assistant in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
