Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college, offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts. Position Summary: The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds. This is a part-time, non-unit position with no benefits. MassBay Community College seeks qualified part time Lab Assistants in our EMT courses. The Emergency Medical Services Lab Assistant assists in the laboratory and simulation setting in the Emergency Medical Technician Program. Our Lab Assistants have obtained and maintain current, unrestricted, and appropriate state and national certification and/or licensure where applicable and have earned appropriate education. These certifications and licensures must be provided, as requested, to meet state and national accreditation requirements. The Learning Specialists must be proficient in all areas of prehospital patient management and interventions, communicate effectively, assess students objectively and work as part of a team. Key Responsibilities and Duties: Provide instruction in EMT courses to students on varioustopics in basic emergency care procedures and patientmanagement; Supervise and/or evaluate students through skills practice inthe proper procedures for safe and effective use of EMS equipmentand simulation manikins under the direction of theInstructor/Coordinator or lead instructor; Coordinate and facilitate groups of students and supervise openlab, as needed; Maintain current working knowledge of prehospitalpractices; A good working knowledge of the EMS curriculum and teachingmethodology; Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation; Collaborate with the lead instructor and other lab assistantsconcerning students' academic progress and needs; Prepare EMT lab sessions with the appropriate materials andequipment necessary to effectively teach or evaluate EMT skills foreach student under the direction of the Instructor/Coordinator orlead instructor; Maintain a safe lab environment during skills training andevaluation sessions; Must attend at least one department meeting eachsemester; Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Deanconsistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement; Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: MA EMT certification in good standing with no history ofsuspension or revocation; Current AHA BLS certification; Three (3) years of experience as an EMT functioning on anambulance. Preferred Qualifications: Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affinitative Action; Experience working in a community college or similarenvironment; Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need; Current AHA BLS instructor credentials; Current MA Instructor Coordinator License; Experience working with college students in a flexiblesetting. Times/Days: Times and days vary depending on the semester; Must be able to commit to 4-8 hours weekly during thesemesters; This will be an evening position from 6p-10p for spring andfall semesters and a day position from 8a-2p during the summersemester; The EMT program enrolls students in the fall, spring andsummer.
