Explosives Safety Specialist

Summary

Duties

• You will survey facilities monitoring safe work methods used in Trident II Missile component processing storage assembly renovation modifications and transportation.
• You will perform duties as safety Loading Officer (SLO) during all explosive and strategic weapons (TRIDENT II) and torpedo on-load and off-load operations at the Explosive Handling Wharf.
• You will Perform inspections of all explosive operating buildings magazines and workplace ensuring compliance with explosive safety and NAVOSH standards.
• You will conduct risk assessments to recommend corrective action and hazard control measures for deficiencies to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements.
• You will assist Explosive Safety Officer in reviewing all facility site-approval documents and facility modifications and all requests for deviations from established explosive safety standards.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour including nights weekends and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing technical guidance for the completion of explosives safety reviews inspections or surveys; and ensuring/reviewing explosives safety programs for compliance regulations and standards.

To qualify based on substitution of education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour including nights weekends and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
