About the Role:

The Vet Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care to animals. This position involves assisting with routine procedures, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and ensuring the comfort and safety of animal patients. The Vet Assistant will be responsible for handling animals gently and effectively, preparing examination rooms, and managing supplies and equipment. This role requires strong communication skills to interact compassionately with pet owners and team members. Ultimately, the Vet Assistant contributes to the smooth operation of the veterinary practice and the well-being of the animals under care.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary or animal care setting is preferred but not required.
• Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
• Basic knowledge of animal care and common veterinary procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a Veterinary Assistant or completion of a veterinary assistant training program.
• Experience with medical record keeping and familiarity with veterinary software systems.
• Knowledge of animal behavior and first aid.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• CPR and pet first aid certification.

Responsibilities:

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and treatments by restraining animals and preparing necessary equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of examination rooms, surgical areas, and kennels to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
• Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as directed, monitoring their behavior and reporting any concerns to the veterinary team.
• Manage inventory by restocking medical supplies and notifying supervisors when items need to be reordered.
• Communicate effectively with pet owners by providing basic information on animal care and answering routine questions under supervision.
