Kitchen Technician I

DUTIES Under the general direction of the Senior Center Director or his/her designee performs duties to ensure efficient operation of all aspects of the Senior Center Meal Program. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Prepare plates and serve food (meals, snacks and beverages). Assesses need for supplies, purchases supplies and maintains inventory control. Cleans and maintains equipment and cooking utensils. Wash dishes, pans, utensils and all serving areas. Prepares for serving meals by cleaning and setting tables; stocking supplies, etc. Serve meals. Completes all required paperwork, bank deposits and data reporting for the meal program. Reviews weekly calendar of events to prepare for food and beverage service. Performs other duties as required. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Ability to assist in developing a meal program and implementing all policies and procedures. Knowledge of the use of a variety of kitchen equipment. Knowledge of safety rules governing a kitchen environment as outlined under the Certified Food Protection Managers Guidelines. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with contracted food providers, co-workers and the public. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS Must be mobile and able to push, pull or lift objects up to 50 lbs.Must be able to perform such manipulative tasks as sweeping, washing, and stirring and able to perform gross body coordination such as walking, stooping, filing and sweeping. Must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination, such as keyboard skills, shifting gears on a vehicle. Must be able to perform tasks which require arm-hand steadiness, as in using kitchen equipment and utensils. Must be able to see objects closely, as in typing a document or reading a report and discriminate colors, able to hear normal sounds with some background noise and able to communicate through human speech, as in answering a telephone. Must be able to concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption and to concentrate on fine details with little interruption. Needs to attend to a task for less than 10 minutes at a time and for 45–60 minutes at a time. Must be able to understand and relate to specific ideas generally several at a time, and able to remember tasks/assign for a full shift. Ability to get along with co-workers, supervisors, customers and the public at large. May be exposed to bodily injuries that could occur around kitchen equipment and electrical hazards. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Experience working with meal programs and/or kitchen site. General knowledge of kitchen procedures. Some working knowledge of computer data entry is helpful. Requires a Certified Food Protection Manager certificate or the ability to obtain a certificate within a reasonable time. Must possess a valid Connecticut driver’s license. Experience working with older adults is highly desirable High School Diploma or equivalent. THIS ABOVE DESCRIPTION IS ILLUSTRATIVE.
