Job Title: CAD Designer Job Description

The CAD Designer is responsible for creating precise 3D models, layouts, and detailed drawings of plant systems and heavy processing equipment. This role works closely with the corporate engineering team and a group of full-time CAD designers to support ongoing projects, develop accurate equipment details, and produce comprehensive plant layouts. The position requires a self-starter who can make preliminary design decisions with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of accuracy and timeliness.

• Create detailed 3D models and drawings of rendering plant equipment such as screw conveyors, hoppers, and related components, as well as larger plant facility layouts.
• Work independently to support the engineering team by making informed preliminary design decisions that will be reviewed and validated by engineering.
• Generate accurate bills of materials, including part numbers and clear, detailed descriptions for all components.
• Organize, manage, and maintain project drawings systematically using Autodesk Vault to ensure proper version control and accessibility.
• Collaborate effectively with other CAD designers, seeking input and sharing information as needed while maintaining a high degree of self-sufficiency.
• Maintain project priorities and manage drawing workflows to meet strict deadlines and completion dates.
• Occasionally travel to plant facilities to verify field dimensions, confirm equipment layouts, and gather information necessary for accurate design work, as directed by engineering management.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned to support engineering and project objectives.

• At least 5 years of CAD design experience in an industrial, mechanical, or plant environment.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailed design.
• Experience with AutoCAD for drafting and layout work.
• Strong mechanical drafting and design skills with the ability to interpret and produce detailed engineering drawings.
• Ability to generate complete and accurate bills of materials, including part numbers and descriptive information.
• Experience organizing and managing project drawings using tools such as Autodesk Vault or similar document management systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while supporting a broader engineering team.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet strict project deadlines.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills for working with other CAD designers and engineering staff.

• Experience with Autodesk Inventor is strongly preferred; SolidWorks experience is a close second choice and is also highly valued.
• Hands-on experience designing plant systems, heavy processing equipment, or similar industrial machinery is a plus.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, drafting, design, or a related technical field is preferred.
• Familiarity with rendering plant processes, layouts, or equipment is beneficial.
• Comfort with occasional travel to plant locations to verify field conditions and dimensions.

This role operates in a professional engineering and design environment, working primarily with 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD, as well as Autodesk Vault for drawing and document management. The CAD Designer collaborates closely with a corporate engineering team and a group of full-time CAD designers in an office setting, with periodic visits to industrial plant facilities to verify field dimensions and layouts. Work typically follows standard business hours, with deadlines that may require focused effort to meet strict project timelines. The environment emphasizes accuracy, organization, and teamwork, with a culture that values self-sufficiency, open collaboration, and continuous support of ongoing engineering projects. Attire in the office is generally business casual, while visits to plant facilities may require appropriate safety gear and compliance with site-specific safety protocols.

This is a Contract position based out of Cold Spring, KY.

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Cold Spring,KY.
