Controller (Manufacturing)

Seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations for a growing manufacturing organization. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cost accounting, internal controls, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing industry experience, a hands-on leadership style, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with operations and executive leadership to support business performance and strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Partner with operations leadership to monitor manufacturing performance, inventory valuation, labor utilization, and production cost
- Oversee cost accounting functions including standard costing, variance analysis, inventory reconciliations, and margin analysis
- Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and working capital optimization
- Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and interactions with external auditors and advisors
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability
- Mentor and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment
- Support ERP system enhancements, process improvements, and financial system implementations as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing operations
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment
- Background supporting operational leadership and plant management teams
- Experience with process improvement initiatives and automation efforts
- Familiarity with standard costing and inventory control methodologies
