Advanced Practice Provider (NPPA) - Solid Tumor Oncology Outpatient

The Medical College of Wisconsins Department of Medicine Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This position is located at Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of theoutpatient services as a member of the Department of Medicine/Division of Hematology and Oncology.

The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Hematology/Oncology intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the HemOnc outpatient service.

• Writes accurate and timely progress notes procedure notes and/or admission and transfer orders.

• Order perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests and appropriately communicates and documents information.

• Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Hematology/Oncology services.

• Facilitates and communicates with patient family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.

• Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements including those of the privileging institution CMS and the Joint Commission.

• Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.

• Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field through educational programs in-services professional associates and current literature.

• Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to the field of hematology/oncology.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

• Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams identifies normal and abnormal findings including physical cognitive and psychosocial status.

• Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.

• Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.

• Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.

• Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.

• Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.

• Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.

• Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

• Educates counsels and assists patients and families regarding current health problems health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Preferred Schedule: Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. May require evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs. Monday- Friday 8:00-5:00

Position Requirements:

Preferred Experience: Five-year experience as a Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner with at least 1-2 years in a clinic or hospital environment working with oncology patients.

Minimum Education: Masters Degree or higher in Nursing

Advanced Practice Nurse : Masters Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant : Bachelors Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Minimum Requirements: Zero years of experienced required
