Your Role

The Medical Physicist is responsible for ensuring safe therapeutic radiological physics within the Radiation Oncology Department. This includes maintaining equipment safety, delivering quality patient care, and providing education in line with standards set by regulatory bodies and the medical community. Our facility offers advanced treatments such as SRS, SBRT, IMRT, DIBH, gating, SGRT, and 3D Conformal techniques. We utilize two linear accelerators: TomoTherapy Hi-Art and Varian TrueBeam, with record and verification managed through Aria. Planning is conducted using Eclipse and Tomoplan software. In addition to treatment procedures, the Medical Physicist will engage in patient-specific quality assurance, chart quality assurance, linear accelerator quality assurance, plan evaluations, and provide support to our radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists as needed.

Our department boasts a skilled team consisting of 1 Physicist, 2 Dosimetrists, 8 Radiation Therapists, 3 Registered Nurses, 2 Office Secretaries, 1 Billing and Coding Coordinator, 1 Social Worker, and 1 Office Manager. Two Radiation Oncologists are present on-site daily, treating an average of 35 patients across our two machines. Collaboration with our expanding Medical Oncology group and interdisciplinary team is a key aspect of our work.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s or PhD degree, must be U.S. board certified or eligible with plans for certification or already certified by the ABR or ABMP, and must be or become registered in Iowa as a Radiation Therapy Physicist. Working closely with the Chief of Physics, the successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in the calibration and commissioning of linear accelerators and other radiation sources, conduct quality assurance for equipment and treatment plans, and implement new technologies as necessary. A strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment are essential.
