UI/UX and Accessibility Lead

Job Summary:
The UI/UX & Accessibility Lead is responsible for driving the design and implementation of user interfaces that are visually appealing, highly usable, and fully accessible. This role emphasizes mobile-first responsive design and ensures compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, particularly for emergency-condition user journeys on mobile devices during adverse weather conditions. Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of well-balanced web interfaces with strong UI/UX principles.
- Develop and own mobile-first responsive design strategies.
- Ensure usability and accessibility compliance, including WCAG 2.1 AA conformance.
- Conduct accessibility remediation on public-facing websites.
- Perform manual assistive-technology testing to validate accessibility.
- Design data-dense interfaces such as dashboards, maps, and time series visualizations.
- Address usability challenges specific to emergency conditions, including user journeys during storms.
- 7+ years of UI/UX experience for web applications.
- Strong knowledge of web design and UX principles.
- Proven experience with mobile-first responsive design.
- Demonstrated expertise in accessibility remediation and WCAG 2.1 AA conformance.
- Experience with manual assistive-technology testing.
- IAAP CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) certification.
- WAS (Web Accessibility Specialist) certification.
- Recognized UX credentials or certifications.
- Focus on emergency-condition user journeys, especially for residents accessing services via mobile phones during storms or rainy seasons.
- Standard work schedule with potential for flexible hours to accommodate testing and emergency-condition design considerations.
