Senior Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead the planning, design and delivery of complex water resources projects across a diverse range of public and private sector clients. This role will provide technical leadership on flood risk management, drainage, stormwater, river engineering, water supply and catchment management projects, while supporting the development of innovative, sustainable and practical solutions. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, environmental specialists, planners, contractors and clients to deliver high-quality outcomes from concept through to construction and completion.


Key responsibilities will include managing and contributing to hydrological and hydraulic assessments, flood modelling, drainage strategies, water infrastructure studies, climate resilience projects and environmental impact assessments. You will prepare technical reports, design documentation, specifications, cost estimates and tender materials, and review the work of junior team members to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance with relevant standards. The role will also involve coordinating project programmes and budgets, managing technical risks, attending site investigations and meetings, and providing clear technical advice to clients and stakeholders. You will be expected to identify opportunities, contribute to bids and proposals, and help strengthen long-term client relationships.


The successful candidate will hold a degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in water resources or hydraulic engineering. Professional registration or chartered status, or progress towards it, is desirable. You will have strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, flood risk principles, drainage design and relevant modelling tools, with experience using industry software such as TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM or equivalent. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound commercial awareness, strong problem-solving ability and the confidence to provide technical leadership are essential.
