High School Teacher Apprentice

WHAT YOU’LL DO The Teacher Apprentice serves as an in‑house substitute teacher, gaining valuable experience across diverse subjects and grade levels while fully participating in instructional professional development and coaching. This role is ideal for candidates committed to urban education and the mission of Tulsa Honor Academy who have limited or no teaching experience, and who are interested in building a strong foundation for future teaching positions. Core Responsibilities Classroom Culture: Ensure scholars are full participants in a structured, productive and safe learning environment through consistent routines, engagement in meaningful work, celebration of character values, and a balance of warmth and structure. Ambitious Content: Deliver content that develops scholars’ understanding of ideas and skills essential to the course, using backward planning, clear communication of objectives, rigorous materials, and data‑based instruction to ensure mastery. Ownership and Engagement: Foster deep engagement by encouraging synthesis of diverse information, completion of cognitive work, peer collaboration, feedback exchange, academic risk‑taking, and creation of evidence to support thinking. Demonstration of Learning: Monitor scholars’ progress toward objectives, facilitate formal and informal assessments, support self‑monitoring, and ensure scholars are on track to achieve or surpass rigorous learning goals. Commitment to Excellence: Model continuous improvement, collaborate with colleagues, and embody THA’s culture of continual excellence. Receive regular observations and coaching from instructional leadership. Qualifications / Certifications Candidate must be within 1–2 years of earning a bachelor’s degree and actively pursuing that degree. Experience Preferably prior teaching experience in a school serving a similar population to THA. Charter school experience is preferred. Compensation and Benefits Salary $37,000 for candidates within 1 year of earning a bachelor’s degree with a desire to become a teacher. Salary $33,000 for candidates within 1–2 years of earning a bachelor’s degree with a desire to become a teacher. The Role Reports to and is held accountable by the school’s Principal.
