Job Details Job Status: OPEN Effective: 2026-27 Posting Number: 00057788 School / Department: Fitzgerald ES Location: Woodbridge, VA Position Duration: 2026-27 school year, starting August 17, 2026 Hours: 7.0 hours/day Days: 188 Employment Type: Full Time Salary Range: $21.12 - $33.82 per hour ($27,793 - $44,503 per year) Reports To: Principal FLSA Status: Non‑exempt Pay Level (Grade): 00004 Essential function: Physically report to work on site Job Summary This paraprofessional role assists the kindergarten classroom teacher with a variety of instructional and classroom tasks under direct supervision. The teacher assistant works collaboratively with students, parents, and staff, and maintains a positive learning environment. Essential Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality of student information. Prepare instructional materials. Maintain attendance and cumulative records. Work with individual students and small groups on assignments. Assist with classroom‑management plan. Act as a role model for courtesy and proper school behavior. Check student work, including objective test materials. Cooperate with substitute teachers to provide instruction and assistance. Assist with housekeeping chores and bulletin boards. Supervise students on the playground and during school‑sponsored activities. Assist with clerical tasks, maintain inventory of materials, procure and use media equipment. Maintain alert attention to the supervision of students at all times. Assist with fire drills. File and catalogue materials. Assist with weather‑related clothing items as appropriate for age/developmental level. Actively assist students with dressing, toileting, braces, personal hygiene, health services, and emergency plans; change and launder soiled clothing during toilet accidents. Supervise students at all times, including providing coverage when the teacher is in planning, meetings, lunch, etc. Accompany students to mainstreamed classes or remain with non‑mainstream students as directed. Communicate effectively. Relate to and interact with a non‑traditional and diverse student and employee population. Report to work on a regular and punctual basis as scheduled. Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program. Have knowledge of and be able to use relevant technology. Participate in the annual professional growth planning process. Recognize that the employee is in a position of public trust and is held to a high standard of personal and professional conduct. Qualifications for Successful Performance Must be Highly Qualified: Obtain an associate’s degree or higher from a nationally or regionally accredited institution (transcripts required); OR complete at least 48 college credits from an accredited institution (transcripts required); OR pass the ParaPro assessment with a minimum score of 455 (documentation required). Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED. Experience: Equivalent to at least 1 year of teacher‑assistant or similar paid/volunteer work. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors: Ability to work with various ability levels of students. Skillful communication with students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel. Ability to follow written and oral instructions related to instructional and behavioral plans. Proficiency in using relevant technology. Certification and License: None specified. Work Environment The role is performed indoors in standard classroom or office settings. The environment is generally free from adverse conditions, with occasional noise, computer‑screen exposure, crowded workspaces, and minor heating, cooling, or ventilation issues.
