Job Summary:

The RN First Assistant (RNFA) provides advanced perioperative nursing care by assisting surgeons during surgical procedures, coordinating patient care in the Operating Room, and collaborating with the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications:

• Education: Completion of an AORN-approved RNFA program (Required)
• Experience: Two years of perioperative nursing experience preferred
• License: Active RN license in the state of practice (Required)
• Required Certifications:
  • BLS/CPR
  • CNOR
  • PALS
• Preferred:
  • CRNFA certification
  • AORN membership

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform circulating, scrubbing, and first-assistant duties during surgical procedures.
• Coordinate patient care with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff.
• Assist with tissue handling, hemostasis, suturing, and drain placement under surgeon direction.
• Verify surgical site and maintain accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts.
• Support safe perioperative care and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
