Job Description

Sr. Mechanical Engineer working in R&D New Product Development on disposable medical devices, working cross-functionally with marketing, regulatory, quality, and operations. Self-driven with experience in design, documentation, planning, verification, and manufacturing. This position is part of Becton Dickinson (BD)'s, Advanced Patient Monitoring, (APM) Business Unit, Mechanical Engineering in Research and Development, New Product Development.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop components and systems utilizing SolidWorks design tools while applying mechanical engineering principles in both disposable and re-usable medical devices.
• Lead in the improvement, design and optimization of more complex experiments, tests, analyze results, provide complex recommendations, and develop reports, based on engineering principles that translate to innovative products
• Oversee R&D support tasks; give instruction to technicians/engineers on conducting tests; train technicians/engineers and provide feedback; and coordinate technician/engineer work.
• Proactively identify issues, achieve resolution, and resolve problems of significant complexity on designing parts, components and subsystems
• Generate work instructions, test methods, engineering models and drawings/prototypes, etc., to establish/characterize product and/or process specifications
• Create/update complex design control documents including requirement specifications, and risk documents with robust knowledge on design control requirements
• Develop project plans to assess technology and drive project results

Ideal Candidate

The Sr Engineer must be a highly motivated self-starter who is able to achieve results with minimal direction. They will have excellent documentation and communication skills, demonstrating advanced problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills. The ability to interact professionally with various organizational levels, manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and having a strict attention to detail is key to this role

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to mechanical engineering
• 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering role
• Proficient with SolidWorks part modeling, assemblies, and drawings.
• Experience leading moderate to complex projects
• Experience working in a team environment, including frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts
• Experience adhering to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) taking adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control.

Preferred Skills/experience:

• Master's Degree in Engineering or Scientific field with 4 to 7 years' experience, including either industry or industry/education
• Experience with Abacus or Ansys FEA tools
• Extensive understanding of processes and equipment used in assigned work
• Holds diverse knowledge of various manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, extrusions, etc.
• Knowledge and/or Experience in Catheter design

The salary or hourly rate offered is determined by the role's specific requirements, including any applicable step rate pay system at the work location. Salary or hourly pay ranges are influenced by labor laws and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requirements applicable to the work location which may also affect the workplace arrangement of the role.
