Registered Nurse - Surgical Suite/Operating Room

Crouse’s Surgical Center/Operating Room (OR) team is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide care for patients of all ages receiving inpatient or outpatient surgeries and endoscopic procedures with anesthesia.

Pay Range: $39.78-$51.50/hour based on experience

up to $20,000 sign-on bonus for experienced RNs!

Available Schedule(s)

• Full time, 12 hour shifts - 7 :00pm-7:30am, with rotation of weekends, holidays and on-call

Registered Nurse (RN) Position Responsibilities

• Provides professional judgment and knowledge of roles as it pertains to the Crouse Hospital Professional Nursing Practice Model.
• Carries out duties and responsibilities per legal requirements under the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice, with emphasis on leading a culture of safe care.
• Responsible for all activities requiring assessment, planning, diagnosing, evaluating, judgment, problem-solving, creating and implementing the plan of care.
• Provides appropriate education to patients and families to promote health, facilitate rehabilitation and maintain wellness. Evaluates effectiveness and revises as appropriate.
• Monitors and evaluates patient responses to treatment/plan of care during hospital stay.
• Utilizes and engages in evidence-based practice to deliver quality patient care.
• Demonstrates characteristics and skills that promote critical thinking in clinical problem-solving situations.

Registered Nurse (RN) Position Requirements

• Must have a current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Graduate from an accredited nursing degree program required.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
• For RNs licensed in or after 2017, completion of a Bachelor’s of Nursing Degree will be required within 8 years of the date the license was obtained.
• One (1) year of operating room or Surgical Nursing experience
• Certification in a specialty area preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Surgical Services has 14 state-of-the-art inpatient operating rooms that feature ceiling mounted surgical lights, flat panel monitors and equipment booms on articulating arms. The OR is staffed by a dedicated Surgical Hospitalist team, in house surgical Physician Assistants and OR Nursing and technologist staff. The impatient facility performs over 8,000 procedures annually, including over 500 through the robotic surgery program.

As part of the Whiting Surgical Suite Team, t he Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluation of care for a given patient population with the established standards and practices of Crouse Hospital. This process is enacted through direct clinical practice, management of patient care and general professional duties.

Job Requirements:

Required: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Degree program. Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Must have minimum of one (1) year of operating room or surgical nursing experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire or within 6 weeks after hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification must be obtained within one (1) year of the hire date, if deemed necessary for the position based on the scope of the assigned role.

Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Certification in a specialty area.
