Employment as a teacher in the Denison Community School District. Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport. Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Reports to: Head Coach, Activity Director and Building Principal Supervises: All student athletes involved in the program. Position Goal: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies and physical training necessary for success while fostering moral values, personal pride, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline, and self‑confidence. Functions of Assistant Coach Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Denison Board of Education and ensures their implementation by the sports program staff. Knows existing system, state and league regulations, implements them consistently, and interprets them for staff. Understands the proper administrative line of command and routes all requests or grievances through proper channels. Aware of all public, staff and departmental meetings that require attendance. Engages in professional growth by attending clinics per local clinic policy. Maintains discipline, resolves grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation. Assists the activities director and head coach in scheduling and providing transportation and required resources for tournaments and special sport events. Prepares necessary logistics to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to facility times. Coordinated programs with maintenance and school employees. Safeguards assigned equipment and sites. Provides training rules and unique sport regulations to each athlete. Provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant at all practices, games and while traveling. Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies. Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches’ office, authorizes entry and issues or requisitions equipment. Ensures athletes are in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games for general cleanliness. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment. Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty. Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property, and proper use. Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting athletes not in other sports programs and through outside media or youth programs. Maintains good public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans. All other duties as assigned.
