Adjunct Education Faculty (Part-Time) – Foundations of Education SVCC is a community college serving the Southside Virginia region as part of the Virginia Community College System. We are looking for a qualified educator to teach EDU 200: Foundations of Education, exploring historical, philosophical, social, legal, ethical, and professional aspects of teaching. The course will be delivered in a hybrid format during the Fall 2026 semester, from August 17 to December 15, 2026, on campus at John H. Daniel Campus (Keysville, VA) on Thursdays 2:30 PM – 3:55 PM. Applications will be reviewed continuously until positions are filled. This is a part‑time adjunct position with no state and VCCS benefits. Adjunct faculty are appointed on a course‑by‑course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities Explore foundational topics related to the field of education. Emphasize the historical, philosophical, and social dimensions of the teaching profession. Instruct on the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities inherent in teaching. Work with the practicum coordinator to ensure students complete a minimum of 20 hours of observation in a K‑12 setting. Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high‑quality course materials align with college standards. Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course. Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success. Qualifications Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams. Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments. Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds. Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success. Additional Considerations Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities. Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Experience working with community college students.
