Middle School Dean of Students

The Dean of Students promotes a safe, healthy, and inclusive community dedicated to the growth and well-being of every student. In this role, the Dean coordinates holistic support plans for all Middle School students and serves as the primary point of contact for families regarding academic and social-emotional needs. Beyond individualized support, the Dean cultivates student leadership and collaborates with Grade-Level Coordinators to guide the Middle School Advisory program. When necessary, they also administer growth-oriented and restorative disciplinary responses. As a key member of the Middle School Administrative Team, the Dean works closely with the Head of Middle School to mentor faculty and foster professional growth in alignment with the school’s mission. Primary Responsibilities: Chief advisor to the Head of Middle School on student experience, culture, and community Evaluate, oversee, and continuously improve the Middle School Advisory program with input from the School Counselor, the Grade Level Coordinators, and advisors Coordinate and evaluate the Middle School Clubs Program Help maintain accurate rosters for Study Hall, Activities, PE, and Health groups Use Restorative Practices to address all matters of student behavior and community membership With assistance from the Middle School Administrative Assistant, oversee student attendance, identifying patterns and trends, and contacting students and families when necessaryServe on the Middle School Student Support Team Be an active and visible presence in the life of the school—attending events, visiting classrooms, and supporting both students and faculty in ways that advance the mission Support incoming students (both sixth graders and new admits) with their transition process, including class placement recommendations and parent outreach Create, review, and revise advisory groups and class rosters during the summer Teach two sections within one’s academic discipline in the Middle School Summer work is required for this position; The Middle School Dean position requires four weeks of additional work in the summer, to be coordinated with the Head of Middle School (some of this work can be remote) A Master’s Degree and independent school leadership with student programming experience are preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr National Association of Independent Schools
