Gas Originator
TOTAL Deutschland GmbH
Empresa empleadora TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America, Inc. TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America (TGPNA) is TotalEnergies’ U.S. trading affiliate, responsible for a broad range of commercial activities, including energy marketing and trading, transportation, storage, exports, and asset optimization. TGPNA plays a critical role in supporting the Company’s integrated U.S. energy portfolio, which includes natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGLs), a rapidly growing power business, and environmental products. Together, these businesses are central to TotalEnergies’ global strategy of delivering reliable, affordable, and increasingly lower‑carbon energy solutions. Natural gas and power are key pillars of the energy transition and are integral to TotalEnergies’ ambition to build a more sustainable, diversified, and lower‑carbon energy portfolio. Natural gas and LNG remain strategic priorities, providing flexible and reliable energy sources that help decarbonize power generation and industrial activities while complementing renewable energy by addressing its inherent intermittency. In parallel, power has become a core growth business for TotalEnergies, with significant investments underway across the U.S. electricity value chain to develop an increasingly integrated and competitive power portfolio. Natural gas liquids also play a vital role in the Company’s integrated energy strategy, serving as essential feedstocks for the petrochemical industry and supporting TotalEnergies’ presence across the broader energy value chain. These products are fundamental to the manufacture of a wide range of consumer and industrial goods and contribute to the Company’s long‑term value creation objectives. Environmental products further support TotalEnergies’ commitment to advancing the energy transition by helping reduce carbon intensity, meet evolving customer needs, and optimize the balance of its diversified energy portfolio. The Gas, Renewables & Power (GRP) business segment serves as a critical market access platform for TotalEnergies, providing commercial expertise and solutions across origination, structuring, risk management, market intelligence, and customer engagement. Within GRP, the U.S. Gas Origination Team operates as part of the Trading, Market Access & Proprietary Trading organization and plays a key role in identifying, developing, and executing commercial opportunities across the evolving U.S. energy landscape. Working at the intersection of market intelligence, commercial innovation, and portfolio optimization, the team enables growth across natural gas, NGLs, power, and environmental products while supporting TotalEnergies’ strategic objective of becoming a leading global multi‑energy company. The Gas Originator is responsible for identifying, developing, negotiating, and executing commercial transactions that support TotalEnergies’ U.S. Gas Origination strategy. This role focuses primarily on natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs), while also supporting multi‑commodity purchases and sales, structured physical and financial transactions, supply and marketing agreements, project development initiatives, and other strategic commercial commitments. Through these activities, the Gas Originator contributes to portfolio growth, value creation, and the Company’s broader objectives related to the energy transition and decarbonization. Working closely with the U.S. Gas Trading Desk, the Gas Originator will originate and execute opportunities that enhance trading margins, optimize portfolio value, and support the growth of TotalEnergies’ integrated energy portfolio. As a key commercial representative of the Company, the individual will maintain a high standard of professionalism while building and strengthening relationships with customers, counterparties, affiliates, and internal stakeholders. The role directly contributes to U.S. Gas Trading P&L through third‑party transactions and helps influence commercial business flows and strategic infrastructure commitments across the portfolio. Key Responsibilities Identify, evaluate, structure, negotiate, and execute complex commercial transactions across natural gas, NGLs, and other energy commodities for internal and external stakeholders throughout the upstream, midstream, and downstream value chains. Develop and maintain commercial relationships with external counterparties and TotalEnergies affiliates, including Exploration & Production, Refining & Chemicals, and New Ventures. Lead all aspects of transaction execution, including contract negotiation, commercial structuring, marketing and procurement activities, and project development and coordination. Collaborate closely with Trading, Operations, Business Development, Risk, Finance, Compliance, Accounting, Legal, and other support and control functions to ensure successful transaction execution and portfolio optimization. Engage with TotalEnergies affiliate management teams to support business reviews, commercial strategy discussions, and contract management activities. Partner with Gas, Power, and Emissions Trading teams to facilitate market intelligence sharing, support asset optimization initiatives, and provide trading liquidity and commercial support. Maintain and expand strategic industry relationships across all segments of the energy value chain while serving as a primary commercial representative and trusted ambassador for TotalEnergies in the marketplace. Provide market and commercial expertise related to natural gas and NGLs, supporting TotalEnergies’ domestic and international business activities. Accountabilities Support the implementation and execution of TotalEnergies’ U.S. multi‑commodity commercial strategy. Originate and deliver new commercial opportunities that maximize portfolio value and contribute to achieving and exceeding annual P&L targets in partnership with the GPE Gas and NGL Trading team. Maintain strong working relationships and effective communication across a broad network of internal and external stakeholders. Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Code of Conduct, internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. Support TGPNA Trading Team strategies through commercial opportunity development, market intelligence, and portfolio optimization initiatives. Partner with TotalEnergies affiliates to identify and advance business development opportunities within the U.S. market, supporting the Company’s growth and integrated multi‑energy objectives. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the energy industry, with a focus on trading, marketing, business development, origination, or commercial activities. Demonstrated success in originating, structuring, negotiating, coordinating, and executing complex physical and financial transactions across multiple energy commodities. Strong understanding of the energy value chain, including upstream, midstream, and downstream markets, with knowledge of commodity fundamentals, market dynamics, financing structures, risk management strategies, and commercial deal structuring. Established network of industry contacts and relationships within the North American energy sector. Strong analytical, quantitative, and technical capabilities, with familiarity with relevant credit, legal, regulatory, and compliance frameworks. Proven ability to build and manage relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment while also operating independently and driving initiatives to completion. Excellent verbal, written, and analytical communication skills, with strong attention to detail, sound business judgment, and problem‑solving abilities. Demonstrated leadership potential, commercial acumen, and the ability to influence outcomes across cross‑functional teams and organizational levels. About the company: TotalEnergies is a multi‑energy company that produces and markets energies on a global scale: oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity. Our 105,000 employees are committed to energy that is ever more affordable, clean, reliable and accessible to as many people as possible. Active in more than 130 countries, TotalEnergies puts sustainable development in all its dimensions at the heart of its projects and operations to contribute to the well‑being of people. TotalEnergies Gas and Power (TGP) is the trading arm of TotalEnergies in the field of low carbon energies (mainly gas, LNG and power). As such it operates in fast‑evolving market dynamics influenced by internal and external factors that require constant adaptation and evolution. Uncertainties specific to the trading environment (volatility of prices, supply & demand mismatches) are coupled with those coming from the broader energy sector (climate change policies, changes in the energy mix, developments of new energy sources, etc). In such context TGP helps to ensure growth and profitability to a key segment of the business in order to reach the objective of Carbon Neutrality by 2050. Our Culture: We are committed to meet the energy needs of a growing population while fulfilling our ambition to be a major player in the energy transition. The volatility of the energy trading markets requires excellence in risk management and a culture of innovation. Our people flourish in an environment that promotes expertise, entrepreneurship spirit, agility and a purpose‑driven culture, generating boundless opportunities to learn, grow and achieve collaborative success while ensuring safety in all our operations. We look for passion, ambition and open‑mindedness. While we evolve in a demanding and ever‑changing industry, we cultivate a friendly workplace where team spirit and respect guide our daily routine, and where the diversity of our people and their skills create a nourishing experience for all of us.
