Substitute Custodian PositionBenefits of Working as a Substitute Custodian:Seniority Progression: Begin earning seniority based on the total hours worked each month.Permanent Position Opportunities: Assignments to permanent positions are determined based on seniority.Job DefinitionUnder the direction of an immediate supervisor, the Substitute Custodian performs routine custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality within a school environment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.Example of Duties:Sweep, mop, wax, and scrub floors.Dust, wax, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork.Empty and clean waste receptacles.Wash windows, walls, restrooms, and classroom heaters/screens.Sweep sidewalks and play areas.Move and arrange furniture and equipment as required.Clean drinking fountainsReplace light bulbs and replenish supplies.Turn off lights and secure doors and windows.Report repair needsWatch for vandalism.Operate power cleaning equipment.May perform limited grounds maintenance and minor non-technical repairs.Desirable QualificationsTraining and Experience:No prior experience is required.Knowledge of:Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.Skills in:Following oral and written instructions.Using standard cleaning tools and equipment.Performing manual labor associated with custodial tasks.Ability to:Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED
