Senior Software Engineer, Distributed Networks

Salary: $191,000 - 253,000 per year Requirements:

• We look for 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• We need strong proficiency in a systems programming language such as Rust, C, C++, or Go.
• We expect a solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including TCP/UDP, socket programming, MTU, multicast, and TLS/mTLS.
• We require experience building or maintaining distributed systems such as message buses, RPC frameworks, consensus protocols, or similar platforms.
• We want familiarity with asynchronous programming models, including async/await, event loops, and futures.
• We need comfort working with Protocol Buffers and/or gRPC.
• We expect the ability to read packet captures and use network debugging tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark.
• We require eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
• Preferred: production experience with Rust.
• Preferred: experience with gossip protocols, epidemic broadcast, or peer-to-peer overlay networks.
• Preferred: familiarity with link-state routing protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS, or inter-domain routing such as BGP.
• Preferred: experience with deterministic simulation or property-based testing of distributed systems.
• Preferred: familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration.

• We design and implement new Distributed Service Bus features, including gossip protocols, OSPF-style link-state routing, and flow control.
• We build and enhance the gRPC proxy layer so existing services can communicate seamlessly across the DSB mesh.
• We troubleshoot complex distributed networking problems across tactical radios, UDP/TCP transports, and mesh routing, from packet captures on deployed assets to cloud infrastructure.
• We collaborate with product teams across business lines to deploy DSB on new hardware platforms and support migrations from legacy communication buses.
• We design and implement protocol-level optimizations for bandwidth-constrained RF links, such as compression, prefix routing, and priority-based QoS scheduling.
• We write RFCs and technical design documents for new protocol capabilities and API surfaces.
• We build deterministic simulation harnesses that let the same production code run in fully reproducible test environments.
• We improve observability with Prometheus metrics, Grafana dashboards, and CLI tooling for live mesh inspection and debugging.
• We strengthen the security posture of the communication layer through packet signing, FIPS compliance, and end-to-end encryption.
