MEDICAL ASSISTANT Job Title: Medical Assistant Department: Varies Reports to: Practice Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Job Summary: The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and healthcare providers in a medical office setting. This role is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing routine clinical tasks, and ensuring efficient daily office operations while maintaining patient confidentiality and a high standard of care. Duties/Responsibilities: Clinical Duties
- Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and documenting chief complaints
- Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and minor procedures
- Administer injections and medications as directed by the physician
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic lab tests, and ensure proper handling
- Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, and dressing changes as needed
- Manage exam rooms by cleaning, stocking supplies, and maintaining equipment
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols
- Schedule patient appointments and manage follow-up visits
- Verify patient information, insurance, and referrals
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Handle phone calls, patient inquiries, and prescription refill requests
- Coordinate communication between patients, providers, and external facilities
- Assist with billing, coding, or prior authorizations as needed
- Excellent patient service and bedside manner
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
- Team-oriented with a professional and positive attitude
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience
- Equivalent experience is at least 2 years working as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and office operations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Completion of Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification within 6 months from the date of hire at which time the employee would be re-classified as a Medical Assistant II
- Previous experience in a physician office or outpatient clinic
- Experience using electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems)
