Job Description
Nurse Shift Manager (NSM)

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Shift Manager to join our Labor and Delivery team. The ideal candidate will have strong charge experience and a passion for providing excellent patient care in obstetrics.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Labor and Delivery unit, including overseeing L&D, recovery, postpartum, and women's health patients.
Ensure compliance with CA state guidelines for patient-to-nurse ratios:

4:1 for couplets
3:1 for stable antepartums
2:1 for labor and delivery
1:1 during deliveries with an additional NRP nurse present

Coordinate with healthcare professionals to ensure smooth operations within the unit.
Participate in the orientation and training of nursing staff.
Perform routine assessments, patient checks, and monitoring of maternal and fetal health.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to evidence-based practices.

Qualifications

Current RN license with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery.
Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring.
Experience with electronic medical records, specifically Cerner, is preferred.
Ability to start IVs independently.
Experience with high-risk obstetrics and maternal-fetal complications.

Unit Information

Total beds: 18 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) rooms, 6 triage spaces, and additional beds for women's care overflow.
Fully equipped with two operating rooms for surgeries and a Level 2 NICU on-site.
Continuous in-house coverage from obstetricians and anesthesiologists.

Additional Requirements

Must be available for weekend shifts and holidays (major and minor).
All nurses are required to work across different areas, including L&D, postpartum, and women's health.
Navy blue scrubs are required for daily work attire.
